Analyzed and drafted materials to support the Congressman’s initiatives for national health reform legislation to expand coverage, contain costs, (with incentives for state initiatives, managed care and managed competition principles), promote the reorganization of health care delivery systems, and improve quality. Represented the Congressman on the President's Health Care Reform Task Force, and worked in the “Budgeting” and “The Operation of Purchasing Cooperatives” groups. Drafted and directed a successful legislative initiative to improve Medicare coverage of treatments for cancer. (In 1993 provisions of the Medicare Cancer Coverage Improvement Act became law clarifying coverage for outpatient off-label treatments and expanding Part B coverage to include some oral anti-cancer medicines.) Prepared the Congressman for meetings with national and constituent organizations and Administration officials, and represented the Congressman at such meetings. Drafted legislative language, press releases, and statements on long-term care, medical ethics, fraud and abuse, and Medicare. [Note - I worked for Congressman Levin twice, but LinkedIn doesn't allow for split dates.]
