Michael Minor is the president and owner of Michael Minor and Associates, Inc. (MMA), a noise, vibration, and air-quality consulting firm in Portland, Oregon that specializes in performing technical analyses for major transportation projects. Mr. Minor grew up in Great Fals Montana, where he worked at his father’s Lafayette Radio Electronics store throughout grade school, junior high school, and high school. He started MMA in 1990 after spending several years as a consultant at CH2M Hill (Jacobs). Prior to working at CH2M Hill, Mr. Minor was an application engineer at Bruel and Kjaer Instruments, a leading manufacturer of noise and vibration testing equipment. Since starting MMA, Mr. Minor has performed all types of noise studies, including small business redevelopments and land use change, large highway and multimodal transportation project, light rail and commuter rail projects, and measuring rocket launches in Alaska and Hawaii. MMA has now provided these services for over 30 years and brings a strong understanding of state and federal regulations and guidelines for noise and vibration analysis. Recent and on-going experience includes highway and roadway projects (two-lane arterials to ten lane highways), high-capacity transit (light rail, heavy rail, bus rapid transit and transit related facilities), commercial properties, utilities (pump stations, water treatment, wind and solar farms) and industrial uses (mining, waste transfer and landfills), along with utilities and project construction. Mr. Minor is also frequently called as an expert witness in defense of Sound Transit projects Seattle and the Puget Sound area Our firm also specializes in monitoring and managing noise and vibration related to project construction. We recently completed detailed noise and vibration monitoring for the construction of the new rail structure in Tacoma Washington for Sound Transit, and on the Sellwood Bridge Project in Portland Oregon. We have the type of robust equipment necessary for long term unattended noise and vibration monitoring in adverse conditions, like those at large scale construction projects.
