About Michael Moore

I am an experienced Second Officer in the Merchant Navy, currently holding a UK Officer of the Watch (OOW) Certificate of Competency (CoC II/1). My career steams from my foundation degree in marine operations and a degree in Marine Biology. Overall, these two qualifications have given me a unique perspective and given me a greater understanding of the marine industry.During my time at sea, I have gained experience across many different vessel types; these including Containers, Ferries, Cruise ships, General Cargo, Marine Survey, and a period of working in the RFA. Overall, this has provided me with a well-rounded set of skills. Which include a practical experience in vessel handling, crew management, various cargo operations and passage planning.My current role is that of a Safety Officer onboard the Cefas Endeavour. As part of this role, I promote safety awareness onboard, while working to enhancing the safety culture of the vessel. Standard jobs include identifying of potential risks, and the implementing corrective measures. All of this to ensure the well-being of all persons onboard.I regularly take charge in the planning and running of emergency response drills to prepare the everyone for emergency situations. All as part of my role in training and development of persons onboard.One of my key skills, the use of dynamic positioning (DP) systems has been developed over a significant period of use; during survey operations, buoy servicing, and a range of other survey situations.For those wishing to contact me I am open to hearing about opportunities within the maritime industry and having an input in the future of this industry which I love.

All while ensuring that the operations were planned out considering any time constraints, weather and operational limitations.As the Safety Officer, I was tasked with promoting the safety culture onboard. This involved conducting regular safety drills, implementing risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety management protocols. I took an active role in raising safety awareness among the crew and continuously improving safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all onboard.During my watch in both of these roles, there was a great deal of different operations in which I was I was actively involved in. These included Dynamic Positioning (DP 0) operations, supporting the launch and recovery of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and conducting buoy recovery and launching operations, sediment grab operations, multi-beam surveys, and fisheries surveys. I was also actively involved in training exercises, such as helicopter operations, search and… Show more As a Third Officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), I undertook a wide range of responsibilities which included navigation, safety, and administrative functions, contributing to both at-sea operations and the vessel's readiness during periods along-side.During periods of navigation, I served as the Officer of the Watch, this involved ensuring the safe operation and navigation of the vessel. I was also actively involved in training exercises, such as helicopter operations, search and rescue drills, man-overboard (MOB) exercises, and machinery breakdown drills. These exercises where all part of an operational sea training (OST) for the vessel. While the ship was alongside, I served as the Officer of the Day (OOD), acting as the ship and Captain’s representative. In this role I was responsible for overseeing all operations and ensuring the ship's smooth functioning while in port, managing any issues that arose and coordinating with external parties as needed. Outside of the regular duties above I worked as Life-Saving Appliances (LSA) Officer, which I was responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and checks of all LSA equipment onboard, ensuring that the vessel met all safety standards, and that equipment was always ready for emergency use. I also delt with administrative tasks as the Logbook Officer, I managed the upkeep of nearly all logbooks associated with the Executive Department. This included maintaining essential records such as the Bridge logbook, Garbage log, and the Official log, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.My diverse responsibilities as a Third Officer in the RFA allowed me to develop a strong foundation in both operational and administrative tasks.
