Majority of duties included preparation and performance of timber and timberland appraisals for industrial, timberland investment management organizations, and private non-industrial landowners. This appraisal work included, research and analysis of both national and regional economies as well as local land use trends; natural resource inventory, examination, and analysis; supply and demand trends of local timber markets; estimation of cost data on a local and regional level; comparable sale research, inspection, confirmation, and analysis; construction of site specific cash flow models; projection of future stumpage prices; and reconciliation of the three approaches to value in order to support an opinion of value.

Appraisal of timberlands for acquisition or exchange with the USFS. Generally, the same description as above with less emphasis on the timber market. All appraisal reports were USPAP and UASFLA compliant. Duties also included value consulting and tract selection to maximize legislated dollars.

Duties were management of the district timber resource program (science based), which included inventory; stand and unit prescription; pesticide and prescribed fire utilization; stand selection for thinning or clearcut; and interdisciplinary team leader for Environmental Assessments. Fire Management Officer, which pertained to wildfire suppression, prescribed fire management and implementation, and resource assessment. Recreation Management- which encompassed program management of two recreational areas as well as supervision of day-to-day maintenance activities.

The duties of this job included all aspects of private forest management, including but not limited to the following: timber cruising and marking, stand wide forest prescriptions (economically based), site-prep and mid-rotational prescribed fire (app. 5,000 ac/year), herbicide prescription and operational management, mechanical site-prep, fertilization, tree planting prescription and operational management, wildfire prevention, detection, and extinguishments, forest health management concentrating on detection and notification of southern pine beetles, management of state and federal cost-share programs, etc.

Job duties included wood procurement and operational manager for southwest LA and east TX, for the purpose of resin extraction.

Job duties included prescription and application of forestry approved herbicides for industrial and private landowners. Also, during the “off-season” worked doing forest inventories, GIS mapping, and timber marking.
