Using the knowledge and experience I gained from my previous roles, I set about developing and building a team with a new approach to the running of production. I based this around the core values of honesty, accountability and transparency and involved the team leaders and foreman attending meetings and sharing information relevant to their roles, allowing them to incorporate their expertise and produce the monthly output whilst bringing in delivery dates to align with Just In Time (JIT) requirements. Driving this culture change through the business took time, approximately 6 months to be precise. What I achieved with the team was a rise in production output from £430k a month to a peak of £713k. A year on year increase of 16% on the annual turnover and operating profit margins of 24%. All with the same number of machining operatives. These achievements came from driving the team of 43 employees with continuous improvements, lean manufacturing, product development and operations management

Continuing my developing with the business, I took the step into a new role, becoming more involved with the management of the business and overseeing the operational processes of production, quality and maintenance. I took the lead and chaired production meetings, presenting to the managing director and department managers. I would communicate the position of each job against the production schedule for its current operation and any impact on delivery date, this involved reviewing a rolling 3 months.I started inventory management, compiling records of stock control on a monthly basis. I incorporated production planning into the role for priority jobs for customer breakdowns, planning routes and resources around despatching the product ASAP. I started to gain an insight into the recruitment process. Moving the company away from sole reliance on agencies and towards advertising on popular job sites to see what interest would populate from there. This saved the business a lot of money that would otherwise be spent in agency fees. Developing the recruitment process further, I implemented a training schedule to give a criterion to review new starters against during their probation, I also instigated basic trade tests for reading technical drawings and measuring abilities.My involvement in quality assurance further developed and I played an integral role in the upgrade and implementation of ISO standards 9001 and 14001.The pressure, intensity and excitement of the role has me setting my eyes at new career goals, management.

Building on my previous duties within the business, I took on the new role with the additional responsibilities of monitoring and updating production status records. Updating the production board for where work was, compiling work to lists, subcontract update sheets and raw material progress chasing. Working in this role gave me the opportunity to start gaining an insight into the workings and requirements of ISO 9001 standard. Understanding the requirements of material traceability, calibration and internal auditing and critical record keeping. With the additional duties i was able to streamline and consolidate processes and procedures, this allowed me time to give additional support to other departments within the business. Support was give to logistics where i began drafting export documentation and the sizing and procurement of packing cases.

A new challenge, a new opportunity and a new industry (link to company website below), I accepted a role in administration support. Supporting the production and quality department . Knowing I had transferable skills from my previous role, I just needed to learn the industry and how to apply the skills, I began by doing the basics of procurement, order processing, document control and subcontract chasing. I soon took on the responsibility of internal logistics and control of subcontract documentation and traceability. Having control of documentation and logistics allowed me to control the complete cycle, this led to improvements in turnaround time and also down time on return of products.
