My chess history includes winning many tournament events and ranking 18th in the United States for my age group during 2002-2003. I have taught at several elementary and middle schools for 4H or after-school programs in the Provo/Orem area, including but not limited to Hillcrest, Edgemont, and Lakeview Elementary, Mountain Ridge, and Canyon View Middle School. I served as BYU Chess President for a number of years, and hosted BYU's first Utah intercollegiate chess tournament. I have also taught hundreds of children through the Boy Scouts of America as a Chess Merit Badge Counselor.My goal is not only to help my students become excellent chess players, but make it an enjoyable experience as well. I firmly believe the lessons and skills mastered for chess can be applied to life, especially those of critical decision making, analysis, patience, and planning for the future.
