I am responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the Learning Skills Service at Conestoga College. I analyze data and author progress reports to help guide the direction of the service. I am responsible for hiring new staff as well as student leaders and aiding in their training and development. Furthermore, I instruct students in learning strategies, using delivery methods specific to the students’ unique learning strengths and challenges. I also design, deliver, and monitor personal learning strategy plans for students based on formal and informal assessments. In addition I deliver a plan of specific study skill strategies in response to student requests, assessment tools, and or information from a referring source (faculty/service area) I identify students with suspected learning disabilities and offer a screening tool to make an appropriate referral to Accessibility Services. In addition I facilitate referrals to support student issues beyond study skills (e.g. personal concerns, other academic concerns, career concerns, suspected learning disability etc.)

Oakville

I am a part time History instructor within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Studies at Sheridan College.

As an occasional teacher I supervised and effectively managed multiple classrooms of diverse students at several schools in the Tri-City Area. I communicated with classroom teachers, ensuring material was covered in their absence and notifying them of any irregularities. I also work with high-needs students with various learning exceptionalities who were on individual education plans.

Kitchener

I promoted and supported positive student and volunteer engagement in the Pathways tutoring program. In addition, I successfully developed and organized resources to support a wide range of students’ learning styles and needs, especially those at risk. I also maintained routines and a safe and effective learning environment for up to 140 students at tutoring sites. Finally, I worked collaboratively with case management program staff and the wider Pathways staff team to provide a holistic approach to supporting student success.

Kw Area

I worked as a self employed archival and educational liaison for a variety of organizations in the Kitchener-Waterloo area including St. Paul's University College and the University of Waterloo History Department.

I effectively managed classes of 10-40 students ensuring a respectful, inclusive and supportive learning space. I taught courses from the Ontario High School Curriculum to a diverse group of students from low-income communities and varied cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, I planned and implemented engaging lessons using participatory and student-focused strategies, setting clear learning expectations and goals for students, providing regular feedback on progress and through the design and implementation of assessment tools that fairly measured and evaluated student performance. I also kept abreast of student needs, educational and community development resources and evolving policy through professional development sessions. Finally, I collaborated with administrators and parents (only if student authorized) to ensure success of high-needs students.

Waterloo

At Oxford I tutored and mentored Oxford curriculum to high-needs and ESL students between the ages of 6 and 17, in one on one and small group settings in an intensely student focused environment. I trained and developed new staff: outlined expectations, supervised and evaluated practice teaching sessions, provided feedback, and informed management of trainee’s readiness to take on students or need for additional training. I also met frequently with parents to discuss students progress or to explain the benefits of the Oxford curriculum to interested parents.
