Hamilton residents pay more than their fair share of the city's storm water management costs, subsidizing neighbouring businesses. A fair fee would transparently and sustainably improve local resiliency to extreme rainfall events. A Hamilton HERO program (Home Energy Retrofit Opportunity) would help households reduce energy costs at no cost to taxpayers. It would also strengthen the local economy with good green jobs and help meet climate change emission targets. Relative to inflation, funding for the Hamilton Street Railway has been declining for more than a quarter century. Rising fares are insufficient to improve service, resulting in slumping ridership while other cities nearby see double digit increases. Federal gas tax transfers should be be used to #FixtheHSR. I helped to write, organize, and coordinate these campaigns in a two person team. I created press releases, articles, print materials, and social media campaigns, co-wrote a motion to city council, named the HERO program, and planned and hosted events. I did local outreach, recruited new members and volunteers, filled petitions, appeared in print and on radio, and met with the mayor and councillors. We took the local lead in the national People's Climate Plan campaign, educated, and contributed to fundraising and event planning. I look forward to seeing these initiatives through to completion.
