CurrentMichael Neuman is principal of the Michael Neuman Consultancy since 1995. He served as Professor of Sustainable Urbanism in the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales in Australia, where he was Director of the Infrastructure Research Cluster, Chair: Built Environment Node of the Australian Climate Change Adaption Research Network for Settlements and Infrastructure, and Associate Director: City Futures Research Centre.Dr. Neuman’s consultancy and practice span three decades, specialising in interdisciplinary integration among the fields of planning, engineering, design, and governance with an emphasis on the integration of sustainable infrastructure and urban development. He has advised the mayor of Barcelona, the Barcelona Metropolitan Plan, along with the Regional Plan Association of New York, and governments and private clients around the world. He has served on the ACSP Governing Board, the Board of Directors of the California and Texas Chapters of the American Planning Association, and Editorial Boards of academic journals. His expertise includes infrastructure, sustainable regions and communities, governance institutions, and urban planning and design.Professor Neuman is the author of numerous articles, reports, and plans translated into nine languages. His books include The Futures of the City Region, The Imaginative Institution, Building California´s Future, and Coordinating Growth and Environmental Management Through Consensus Building. He has been awarded Fulbright and Regents Fellowships, best article awards in Town Planning Review, European Planning Studies and the Journal of the American Planning Association. His professional and scholarly work has won numerous awards ranging from the National Endowment of the Arts and the National Science Foundation to the American Institute of Architects, the American Planning Association, the Planning Institute of Australia, and the Spanish and Catalan governments, among others.
