Having recently retired after 30 plus years in the British Transport Police, my knowledge of the railway and its operators is first class. I spent fifteen years as a Detective investigating serious and organised crime, during which time I had secondments to numerous major incident investigation teams, including being a member of the technical investigation team for the Great Heck train crash, which involved the analysis of large amounts of data and required a high level of attention to detail. For the last ten years I have been a Financial Investigator and Fraud Specialist, trained to the Enhanced Financial Investigation level (EFIS) and as a Specialist Fraud Investigator by the City of London Police. I have an extensive fraud and financial investigation background and as the only fraud specialist outside London within the BTP, I dealt with all serious fraud investigations. I am currently studying for an MA in Fraud and Financial Crime. One of the key roles held prior to leaving the BTP was as a gatekeeper and co-ordinator of Operation Snape, the joint BTP and TOCs response to the threat of Delay Repay and Chargeback fraud. Initially the operation had four TOCs however before I left, this had increased to some 15 TOCs working in partnership. I have a clear understanding of the areas of weaknesses that individuals exploit and an excellent understanding of the fraud risk and offender profile.
