• Early Stage Portfolio Planning: Used mathematical modelling techniques (Monte Carlos simulation, sensitivity analysis and statistical comparison with historical data) to help quantify cost and milestone attainment. The model allowed finance directors to plan their portfolio based on specified levels of risk and project variability (cycle times, delay, cost per phase, success factors). The model helped to quantify the impact of different outsourcing strategies and to understand the impacts of therapy area re-balancing• Project and Asset Benchmarking: Creation of Drug Discovery Performance Metrics including success rates, cycle times and milestone achievements of portfolio trends using SAP Business Objects and Excel. The work was presented at a senior level across the business units. The work allowed more advanced predictions of the performance of the GSK pipeline both for R&D and for time to market predictions.• Late Stage Portfolio Planning: Development of a consolidated late stage modelling framework for revenue and cost projections. The model used decision trees and Monte Carlos simulation (@Risk and the Palisade Decision Suite software) to integrate the key factors that impacted revenue decision making notably: peak year sales, sales uptake curves, Value at Risk (VaR) and market launch sequencing.

• Business Process Modelling: Responsible for the analysis and modelling of business processes within R&D and Global Manufacturing Supplies. Delivered a discrete event model to help commission a new factory that optimized material supply resulting in a 20% potential improvement in factory up-time• Supply Chain Optimization: In collaboration with Professor Stewart Roberts, developed the specification and implementation of a clinical trial supply chain model to help understand wastage within the supply chain and obtained sponsorship for its development. The model was developed in collaboration with Warwick University using two Master level students. Both projects were awarded distinctions. • Project Management: Responsible for the management of the software for an automated compound storage, retrieval and processing project. Managed customer visits in the US and UK, the requirements capture process and the steering committee presentations with the customer• Software Resource Management: Responsible for managing software resources and team structure within the company, to adapt to market and project demands. Created an analytical tool for resource allocation within the software and hardware teams to help forecast workload

• Team Leader: Managed a 10 man French team to develop and maintain for 150 end users an industrial scale in-house finite element simulation package that was used to model tyre performance (development in C, C++ and Fortran, with installation on a supercomputer)• Project Management: Responsible for the delivery of a 30-man year project to increase the precision and reliability of the software for virtual tyre analysis (based on an understanding of customer and internal requirements). The project involved working with the US, setting cross-group objectives• Mathematical Modeler: Introduced new models for the kinetic simulation of tyre wear, and the thermal expansion of the tyre during its lifetime for different material laws. The models allowed for new areas of tyre simulation to be explored in contact mechanics, hyper-elastic material laws and the understanding of initial state stresses and strains using reverse engineering techniques
