M O D O (Michael Ong Design Office) is a multi-disciplinary design office in Melbourne, Australia inspired by simple and considered designs. We are excited about the qualities found in everyday spaces, and explore concepts to turn the ordinary and banal into rich and expressive.Our work forms a foundation for narratives to develop and grow within our constructed spaces and objects. While we are fascinated by the intangible, our work is grounded by solid design strategies, experience, rigor, direction and skill.From large private houses to tiny jewelry pieces, we greet each project with an open mind and innate sense of curiosity. We always collaborate with our client’s brief and budget to realize a thoughtful, unique and complete project.

At the time Michael joined AMA, the studio went through a rapid phase of change and growth. As a result, the office environment allow for uncommon opportunities and responsibilities for a young architect.Michael immediately became quite intensively involved in concept design with Andrew Maynard, developing and refining his eye for design. Working on projects such as, the KLCC towers, MOOKS store, Hill House, Tattoo House, HouseHouse, Domino House, Monash P.A.C, Portable Parks and many others.Over the years, Michael’s role within the office expanded comprehensively to cover all aspects of the architectural design process and project delivery. In 2012, Michael become the first Associate Director at AMA.
