Data / Service Manager (Release Reference Data Manager)Nhs Information Centre Aug 2009 - PresentLeeds, United KingdomI manage the Release Secondary Uses Service (SUS) / Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) reference data. I took over this area in September 2011. Reference data is a table of codes that are translated into human readable text. Databases store all information in code form for accuracy and efficiency. They need to be translated at the moment of input and output for the data to mean something to people. I also worked with configuration data that is used to programme functionality in these systems. My duties include:- Lead on the acquisition, delivery and maintenance of reference data content for Live Secondary Uses Service (SUS) and Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and/ or its replacement, ensuring all data content is appropriately quality assured.- Lead on the transition to live of reference data following the end of the release cycle including managing the post live reconciliation between the Reference Data Repository database (RDR) and service catalogues.-Raise and monitor defects and incidents related to the reference data and/ or associated systems.-To contribute to the development and enhancement of the Data Steward Service and the services it provides.-Oversee and manage the monitoring of the data.steward@ic.nhs.uk mailbox; and the answering of both internal and external queries.-Lead on the production of monthly Key Performance Indicator figures.Daily work involves ensuring live systems are kept up to date with relevant data. Ensuring users problems are solved and preparations are made for future large data overalls. I continue to improve our working procedures and lead on some new database developments to improve the handing of NHS reference data for SUS and HES. This involves meeting with senior managers from our suppliers and contract holders.Using :Oracle TOADMicrosoft SQL ServerSQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (SSIS)Microsoft Access -

Information AnalystHealth And Social Care Infroamtion Centre Aug 2006 - Nov 2007LeedsI was a statistical Information Analyst, I produced statistical reports for Cervical and Bowel screening in the UK. I lead on the collection of data from UK NHS organisations. I collated the data and validated it. I would return poor quality data back to the source organisation to be resubmitted. I created a storage database for this data. Finally I produced the statistical reports from a template and to a deadline. This involved speaking to suppliers and helping them through the data input procedure. I needed to send reminders and deadlines for organisations to submit their data.Once the data was submitted I would use statistical techniques to ensure the data was accurate.Once all the date was validated I would plan a process to generate the reports for the government and the public domain.I would analyse the data looking at interesting trends to publish in the reports and to inform the press office about. Anything interesting would get published by the BBC and other news media. After the reports were completed I would amend the collection template to incorporate improvements and additional data collections ready for the next year's collection.I would also answer any Parliamentary Questions that where asked on the subject.I maintained the database taking care to incorporate any NHS Organisation restructuring that happened year on year.
