About Michael P. Lewis

I was born in Honduras, and I studied at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and the University of North Texas (UNT). I geek out about linguistics, and I love to experience different cultures and try new foods – hot pot (火锅), chicken biriyani, and Babe’s fried chicken are just some of my favs! Currently, I am an aspiring medical student that has a background in education, the pharmaceutical industry, fundamental scientific research, and the healthcare field. I firmly believe that affordable health care is an inalienable, basic human right and that, with the help of science and technology and their applications, many of the world’s plights can be resolved. For that reason, I worked to help found a pharmaceutical manufacturing site from the ground up and previously worked with marginalized and underserved communities in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area to alleviate disparities in healthcare access; and in my free time, I conduct breast cancer research at UT Southwestern because simply put: A cure is worth fighting for! As of September 2024, I will have the great honor of working in the Yucatan Peninsula with the Fulbright Program as a cultural ambassador to help teach English and foster mutual understanding between U.S. and Mexican cultures. So, reach out if you would like to link or share any interests, as I am always looking for new opportunities to network, learn, and work in the community!
