Teaching Science and other STEM topics 1 to 1 or in small groups to a base of 15 students with an Autism diagnosis, using LOTC (learning outside the classroom) whenever possible to enrich the learning process.

In my spare time I have been working on a new gaming start-up. We are currently in the pre-seed phase and are actively searching for the right angel investor or publisher to partner with.

During my time at Interstate, my key role has been to develop the company’s financial analysis capability. I approached this in three different ways: 1. By working with the teams in the hotels and central office to ensure that the data being entered into the system was accurate and consistent from hotel to hotel. 2. By ensuring the output from the individual systems such as Fourth was in a consistent format to make it easier to analyse. 3. Working with other Analysists to introduce new software such as Tableau & Microsoft Power BI to senior management to enable the data and information to be presented in a consistent and easily interpreted format to enable them to make decisions informed by the best data.

After a short break when my previous contract ended, I was offered a promotion at the company’s office in Branston in Staffordshire, joining the recently established Finance Centre of Excellence (CoE). In my time there I have led a Continuous Improvement Programme, developing a system to capture and monitor all Continuous improvement projects across the CoE. I also took the lead on a project to improve and standardise the weekly forecast reporting across the EMEAA region. This is alongside my day to day tasks that covered Financial forecasting, developing performance reporting for internal and external stakeholders and owners with my finance business partners to cover weekly, monthly and longer-term timescales, reporting validation and preparing management accounting decks used for decision making at senior leadership level. Also covered was ad hoc work with the operations, finance and internal teams within hotels.

Working as part of a project to integrate 12 new hotels into IHG, initially as part of the project management team where I was responsible for ensuring successful collaboration between the internal project management team and the external consultants. I am now working within the Finance workstream where I am working to integrate the new hotels existing forecasts and budgets into the IHG system, helping them with the month end reporting process and supporting them in preparing their budgets for the next year.

My primary task was month end data validation: checking the numbers submitted by hotels to ensure there were no errors. I also prepared SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) reports commenting on the source of variances to budget which required knowledge of the hotels performance as well as the external geopolitical environment the hotels were operating in.

Working as part of the European Operations Team to deliver high quality information and analysis results throughout the corporate office and hotel management.

Working as part of a 5th Year Project team to design and compete with a Formula Student car at events in the UK and across Europe.

I Delivered Bikeability sessions across Kent to both Children and adults from new cyclists to experienced commuters.

During my year out I was invited back to Nestle to complete a project where I worked with the factory accountant to investigate whether equipment the new factory was eligible for a particular tax incentive and if so collect all the information required for a claim to be made.

As part of my degree I took the option to work with Nestle as part of an industrial placement year. I had heard that Nestle were expanding their coffee production plant at Tutbury so I wrote to the manager of Project DOVE asking if they had any opportunity for me to become involved in assisting with the management of the project. I was invited for an interview and was offered the role of Early Management Co-Ordinator where my roles included:• Project Risk Management: I was the named person responsible for managing risk in the project. This involved organising meetings with the different project sub-teams in order to identify anything that might cause either a delay or an increase in the budgeted cost. I then had to ensure that for each of the risks identified there was an adequate mitigation strategy to decrease the likelihood of the risk occurring and minimise the impact if it did.• Development of Project Management Tools: Project DOVE was the first large scale project to be run under the new NCE (Nestle Continuous Excellence) standards for project management. This meant that all the management tool templates were being used for the first time and I adapted them to make them work more effectively. Any changes made to the templates were recorded and became the standard documents for any future project within Nestle.• Introduction of New Technologies: As part of my role I was responsible for enabling the implementation of an improvement to the coffee manufacturing process that had been suggested to me by a member of the project team. This involved persuading the project steering committee that it was worth investigating the technology, supporting different scale trials to prove its effectiveness and presenting the results to the senior engineer at Nestle HQ in Switzerland who approved the process for use on Project DOVE and any subsequent project within Nestle.

During the summer holiday in 2011, I undertook a placement with Energy Excel an engineering consultancy specializing in designing and delivering energy saving projects to clients in the commercial and manufacturing sector. My roles at the company included:• Project safety management: Helping to prepare the project Health and Safety folder for a client where Energy Excel had designed and installed a CHP (Combined Heat and Power) plant for a large pharmaceuticals company. This involved a site visit to familiarize myself with what had been installed, establishing which RAs (Risk Assessments) would be required, contacting the relevant suppliers to obtain the RAs and assembling them into an indexed folder. • Contract administration: I was responsible for processing invoices received by the company, registering them on the company’s system and insuring that a physical copy was filed correctly, I was also responsible for submitting invoices to one client through their online system, checking that they were correct and saving a copy to the company’s system.• Site energy audit: Assisting with the assessment of a supermarket to establish what energy saving projects could be implemented

Between sixth form and university I undertook a “Year in Industry” placement at Rolls-Royce Aero Engines Rotatives plant in Derby as part of the Capability Acquisition Team. During this time I was involved in three main projects covering quality, machinery installation and component manufacture:• Quality: This involved conducting about 15 Gauge R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility) studies on all the inspection methods that would be used in the inspection of particular parts to ensure that they would be made to R-R standards.• Machinery installation: This was a project to recommission a surface finish robot, which involved liaising with the manufacturer of the robot, the Production Department manager and the Rotatives Division management to solve the problems that occurred.• Component manufacture: This involved taking a new component through all the procedures required from approved drawing stage to manufacture.
