Seconded to the Cairns branch to assist with the 60 monthly schedule docking’s for of the Armidale Class Patrol Boats (ACPB).

I am accountable to the Asset Maintenance Manager for overseeing the day to day operations of the Ships Agents and the project support team. Also responsible for managing designated ship repair and ship maintenance activities involving Thales personnel and Subcontractors, and ensuring Ship Agents fulfil these duties as designated. I'm responsible for ensuring the programme objectives in relation to cost, time, safety and quality are achieved and to meet the contracted Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Other Performance Measures (OPMs) within the ACPB maintenance execution and management function, in accordance with Thales established quality and commercial guidelines. Furthermore also accountable for managing a positive and ongoing relationship with ACPB Enterprise members.

Contracted to Defence within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Maritime Systems Division, Patrol Boat Systems Program Office (PBSPO) supporting the Armidale Class Patrol Boats (ACPB). The PBSPO is responsible for the management of through life support to the ACPBs.I oversee the maintenance activities on the ACPBs and provided direct support to ACPB crews, coordinating all repair action to meet operational requirements. I liaise closely with the In Service Support Contractors, contracted civilian maintainers and Navy Patrol Boat crews to ensure effective conduct of Patrol Boat corrective and preventative maintenance as well as undertaking Technical Investigations.• Act as technical interface/liaison including facilitate resolution of maintenance/technical issues between ships, the Patrol Boat Systems Program Office (PBSPO), Patrol Boat Group (AUSPBGRP) and maintenance contractor(s). Attend and facilitate various meetings.• Inspect and perform audit maintenance and repair work, attend Pre/Post Maintenance Activities, set to work trials and perform/support validation activities.• Monitor corrective and preventative maintenance programs, including review of ships' Consolidated List of Outstanding Maintenances and ensuring sign off of all work.• Record and monitor urgent defects and facilitate rectification, including work progress and quality. Investigate and report findings on defects.• Contribute to development and assessment of various engineering change proposals, andspecifically engineering deviations, configuration management and test and trials . Facilitate implementation of approved deviations.• Perform physical configuration inspections/audits, review of technical manuals, procedures and drawings.• Carry out technical investigations as directed by the Maintenance Manager.• Provide assistance with maintenance planning for Maintenance Availabilities.

• Seconded to a senior engineering role on various Armidale Class Patrol Boats.• Reported to respective Ships’ Captain’s and held the rank of Chief Petty Officer.• As Head of the Engineering Department, responsible for the operation, maintenance, efficiency and readiness of allpropulsion, auxiliary machinery, equipment and systems.• Developed and implemented maintenance programs across electrical, electronic and mechanical systems.• As the Senior Non-commissioned Officer onboard the platform, performed the role of Human Resources Manager, DamageControl Manager and WHS Manager.• Led teams of up to 13 maintenance professionals, including authoring the business plan, communicating the plan to theteam, determining priorities, setting team goals, allocating resources, monitoring day to day work activities and authoringmanagement reports.• Functional responsibilities encompassed maintenance planning, maintenance operations management, production control,staff management, occupational health and safety, quality assurance compliance, customer service, corporate governance,spares procurement, fleet management, technical advice and internal auditing.• Oversaw all ship engineering as a chief technical advisor and concurrently performed hands-on maintenance work.• Entrusted with responsibility for the efficient operation and maintenance of a broad range of ship’s systems and equipment.• Managed plant maintenance, reliability and vibration analysis, structural integrity and failure investigation.• Worked with hull structures, propulsion control and monitoring systems, electrical power generation and distribution, airconditioning, compressed air, ventilation, refrigeration, steerage and davits.• Liaised closely with civilian suppliers and contractors to procure parts and coordinate servicing requirements.• Oversaw plant maintenance, repairs, damage control and routine inspections.

Performed the majority of technical engineering functions previously mentioned. Gained significant exposure to refrigeration, air-conditioning, HVAC, Whilst on this vessel for the period of March 2005 – July 2008 my auxiliary role (1/4 of my day every day) as the Senior Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW); and was bestowed being the Action EOOW during Action Stations. Was responsible to the Marine Engineer Officer for the safe and correct operation and approved maintenance of the propulsion and auxiliary equipment fitted. Propulsion equipment was – 1 x General Electric LM2500-30 Gas Turbine (22,499kW), 2 x MTU 12V1163 TB83 diesel engines (6590 kW), 3 x MARG single reduction combined diesel or gas (CODOG) gearboxes, and 2 x Controllablepitch propellers.
