Finance Specialist for the Sustainable Thermal Energy Partnerships (STEP) initiative at University College London, Member of interdisciplinary team that prepared guidebook on how to structure programs to provide thermal energy services to rural populations in developing countries - focusing on efficient cook stoves, biogas, LPG and solar hot water – as an alternative to cooking with wood and charcoal. Prepared a financial model for use by entrepreneurs looking to enter the LPG distribution and retail business.

Assisted Chase Bank and Global Climate Partnership Fund with the development of commercial energy-efficiency lending in Kenya. Conducted market and regulatory analysis, prepared energy efficiency investment strategy.

Bangladesh

Team Leader, Demand-Side Management, for project: Catalyzing Clean Energy in Bangladesh (CCEB) - Led team working with the two Dhaka utilities to develop load control programs, institute interruptible contracts, evaluate and expand TOU tariffs, and evaluate impact of prepayment meters on energy efficiency.

Ghana And Nigeria

Coordinated appraisals in both countries of the potential for establishing a new clean energy credit line for the French government’s Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Financing (SUNREF) program. Work involved appraisal of existing markets for renewable energy and energy efficiency investment projects, and determining the interest and capability of local financial institutions to participate in on-lending and co-financing with the SUNREF credit lines.

Pakistan

Team leader of the evaluation of the technical and managerial performance improvements of Pakistan’s electric distribution companies. The team evaluated electronic metering, Automatic Meter Readers (AMR), use of hand-held meter readers, Cost of Service studies, Enterprise Resource Planning, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, Customer Service Systems (CIS), and DSM initiatives in schools and industrial motors.

Turkey

Appraised potential for establishing an energy performance contracting (EPC) initiative in Turkish public buildings. Analyzed regulatory and procurement requirements, appraised manpower capability, determined specific buildings or ministries where EPC would be possible, and appraised ability of Turkish energy service companies (ESCOs) to engage in EPC.
