Michael specialises in research and consultancy projects that add value and deliver change in the general area of facility management operations and strategy. He has been involved in FM/Property research and teaching since 1990 and is FRICS. He works particularly closely with Modus Services Ltd and HCP Social Infrastructure (the winners of the UCL SME Partner of the Year Award 2013) in nationwide PFI supply chains and with UCLH and Barts on Healthcare Facility Management. In 2016 a new partnership with Bouygues UK and UCLH commenced with a focus on BIM and the Proton Beam installation in the new Cancer Centre at UCLH. Michael is always keen to develop new long term relationships to add value to both UCL and the partner organisation.Michael is Editor of the Journal of Fac Man having been instrumental in founding the Journal in 2001. He has published numerous papers in international refereed scholarly Journals, has presented at many international conferences and delivered workshops in several countries.Recent projects have included determining the efficiency of healthcare FM in various countries, waste management trends, condition based monitoring, the development of sustainability strategies and performance measurement systems. At the current time a cluster of research projects are running within the PFI supply chain at MOD Main Building in Whitehall. These projects are all partly funded by the private sector jointly with either the UK Government or one of the UK research councils. The work with Modus Services Ltd on Sustainability won the BIFM Sustainability and Impact Award 2011. Michael is engaged in FM developmental work, particularly in Malaysia and China.
