The Committee is tasked with drafting a proposed rule to repeal and replace the current 2009 Indiana Electrical Code (675 IAC 17-1.8) with a new rule based upon the 2023 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70). The Committee may amend this model code with Indiana amendments and shall consider all validly submitted code change proposals related to the subject matter of the rule. This may include amendments to the electrical provisions contained in the 2020 Indiana Residential Code, the 2014 Indiana Building Code, the 2014 Indiana Fire Code, or the General Administrative Rules (675 IAC 12).

The Committee was tasked with reviewing the Fire Prevention & Building Safety Commission’s current rules (the statewide building and fire safety codes in Title 675 of the Indiana Administrative Code) and recommending the next statewide code, or codes, to be updated through the state of Indiana’s formal administrative rulemaking process (IC 4-22-2). Upon reviewing the Commission’s current rules over a series of public meetings, the Committee presented a report of its findings and determinations to the Commission at its December 7, 2021 meeting.
