About Michael Posner
Dr. Michael Posner is a Professor of Statistics and Data Science in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Villanova University, where he has been since 2005 after completing his Ph.D. in biostatistics at Boston University. He is the founding Director of the Center for Statistics and Data Science Education at Villanova University, a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and is an Accredited Professional Statistician by the ASA since 2011, specializing as a statistical expert for Medicare and Insurance fraud detection. His publications and research span the fields of statistics, educational research, statistics education, causal inference in observational studies using propensity scores, biostatistics, public health, health care research, and statistics and the law. Dr. Posner is involved in a number of regional and national committees for statistics and data science education. He is the PI or Co-PI on five NSF grants totaling over $4mil, including an RCT of an innovative assessment paradigm in high schools, a mentorship grant for community college statistics educations, a flipped classroom in data science, and developing instruments for measuring attitudes in statistics and data science classrooms. He is the winner of the American Statistical Association's Waller Education Award in 2012 for excellence and innovation in teaching and influence on statistics education beyond the classroom, the Mathematical Association of America's Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Beginning College or University Mathematics Faculty Member in 2012, and Villanova University's Faculty Award for Innovative Teaching in 2010.
