About Michael Pottiger
A collaborative and detail-oriented problem solver, I have the passion and skills for applying a deep technical knowledge of polymer science and rheology to support innovation, product development, and process development through structure/process/property understanding. An effective and impactful communicator (written and oral) with strong interpersonal and project management skills, I enjoy writing technical reports, presenting project summaries, providing in-house training, and mentoring. I have co-authored chapters in books covering polymers used in the electronics and automotive industries and journal publications on polymer structure/property relationships and the rheology of polymeric fluids. I have also given presentations to the American Chemical Society (ACS), Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), and at other technical conferences. If you review my profile, you’ll find my background includes examples of where I have collaborated with internal businesses, external customers, food and personal care companies, rheological instrument vendors, and leading academic researchers on a broad-range of projects. As a subject matter expert in rheology, I led the corporate Rheology Lab assisting businesses with designing new products and processes, establishing quality control tests, resolving manufacturing problems, competitive analysis, and evaluation of new characterization techniques. I have a strong willingness to learn new technology and skills, have been the recipient of five DuPont Excellence Awards, and named as a co-inventor on three patents and ten patent applications. The following illustrate how I have applied theoretical and experimental knowledge to solve practical problems that enabled new product and process development:◆ To improve the profitability of Lycra®, I collaborated with a leading vendor of rheological equipment to develop a proprietary online rheometer that when combined with an advanced control strategy resulted in a 1.5% increase in global first pass yield worth over $10MM/year of ATOI.◆ As part of an effort to create polymers from renewable sources, I assisted with the design of a new finisher technology to enable the manufacture of Sorona® polyester resins to high inherent viscosity (IV). Sorona® was a recipient of the EPA’s Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 2003.A listing of my core competencies includes:▪️ Rheology▪️ Rheometry▪️ Polymer Science▪️ Polymer Physics▪️ Materials Characterization▪️ Polymer Structure/Process/Property RelationshipsPlease contact me at michaelpottiger@gmail.com.
