Pioneered the research and development of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) based immunoassay and DNA detection chemistry invented by Professor's Allen Bard at the University of Austin Texas and George Whitesides at Harvard and also designed and built first prototype instruments the OriGen Analyzer. This is now Roche Diagnostics 'in-vitro' diagnostics immunoassay platform the ElecSys System Roche acquired the rights to use the technology through the acquision of IGEN for $1.4B in 2003! Also pionered the development of Abzymes - 'Catalytic Antibodies' through immunization of mice with transition state analog based immunogens. Produced the first catalytic monoclonal esterase abzymes together with Dr Peter G Schultz who ws then an Assistant Professor at UC Berkeley (Catalytic Antibodies, Powell et. al., JACS 1987, 109, 2174-76).
