I have been designing and creating software, writing articles and technical documentation within the IT industry for more than 40 years. After reading Physics at Oxford, I moved into IT as a technician and later marketing manager for a software company, where I was responsible for establishing, developing and running the PR and marketing functions for their European offices.I began writing regularly in the IT press as a freelancer in 1984 and was a founding contributor to Computer Weekly’s “Software Month”, wrote feature articles for PC Magazine and other journals, wrote articles for the Guardian and was a founder member of the Financial Times’ “Software at Work” survey team, also having a book on Contracting commissioned and published by Reed Business Publishing. I have also written feature articles on electronics technology for the Hi Fi press. I have extensive experience of preparing and delivering presentations at seminars and conferences both in the UK and USA. In the 1980s, I created the highly successful Percom HR system, which at one time was used by over 1000 companies in the UK. After developing a similar system and selling that to the American company, Unicomp, I started developing web-based systems – concentrating on Risk analysis of many sorts. I designed and wrote the Cognitix C4Risk system in 2003 and developed the Risk and Compliance engine integrated into Dynamic Change’s Performance Accelerator system, in use in over 100 NHS organisations. This tried and tested methodology is incorporated into the Cognitix system, which is used by a number of medium sized companies in the Insurance industry for management of Operational Risk.As well as my IT career, I have had a successful career as a semi-professional opera singer, performing all over the UK and in Europe. I have also written three published novels, with a fourth in progress.
