After leaving High School winning the Eden Brae award for Excellence in Construction, I ventured to ACU to become a teacher of Technology. Realising this was not the right time for that career path, I began an apprenticeship in Shopfitting.I chose Shopfitting not only because of my skills in working in wood and metal, but also because it deals with a much wider range of materials, which in turn would give me a larger skill set.I moved from company to company always excelling, but never really finding the right fit. It was for this reason I decided to start my own business but was drawn back to a company for a Leading Hand role 1 year out of my apprenticeship. However, I still felt I had a skill set that wasn't being utilised. It was then I decided to change my career path to sales.My start into sales began with a storeman job at a reputable tool supplying company to get my foot in the door. I was told in 12 months I could be a part of the sales team. I became a part of the team in 3 months after filling in. I did not waste this opportunity. I quickly became the most prolific salesman in the branch. Soon after I entered the top 5 of the company and was given Senior sales clearance and requested to attend manager meetings and was put in charge of mentoring juniors in multiple branches and was given several major accounts, whilst bringing in new accounts. All within 12 months.After 2 1/2 years in sales, I was given an offer I could not refuse to re-enter my trade in a Foreman role which would also give me more time further my own business.My business is now a rapidly growing Joinery company in which I bring a superior quality to industry. I specialise in Detail Joinery and Cabinetry, but I also do shopfitting and carpentry work.
