Carmax is a great place to work and buy a car. Probably the most caring and ethical company I have ever worked for. Work life balance and being directly compensated for success has made this a lot of fun and allowed me to stay in Colorado. Manufacturing was good to me financially over the years but the hours were horrible and expectations for a maintenance department were usually unrealistic especially when a poor performing department was inherited. Great employer, work life balance, good compensation, and living in Colorado. Life is good and will continue to be great.

In 13 months took maint department from Zero (literally) to paperless work orders, CMMS System, MTBF tracking, spare parts inventory system, and KPI Metrics. Month after month increase in MTBF and continuous improvement in all maintenance metrics.

Taking a step back from the stress of management to get back to that passion I felt in the world of Reliability Centered Maintenance. Now doing it for Mars Petcare (we make Iams and Eukanuba pet food). It has been my observation that most companies are in denial as to who they are, where they want to go, or what it will truly take to get there. They have read all the articles, attended the seminars, and can use all the Lean buzzwords. In my past were too many instances of unrealistic expectations or not taking ownership for the 60 foot hole that they had dug themselves into. Being in an Individual Contributor role I will be able to lead from the trenches instead of from the command center. Mars doesn't seem to be that type of company. (At least I hope they are not). I will use my Jedi Reliability skills and help them go from pretty good to world class. This should be a lot of fun and looking forward to the journey.After a year here...Mars is not that kind of company! Freedom to succeed (and sometimes fail without fear). Mars and their Five Principles is a good model to follow as this is the most collaborative environment I have been in. Leaving Mars was a tough one. I was happy there as they are a great company to work for. But being closer to family in Colorado and having the opportunity to shape a maintenance team in ways of a TPM Jedi was a win-win and worth giving up the corn fields of Nebraska for the Rocky Mountains and family. I will bring a lot of what Mars was as a company as a template to build a world class maintenance team. It was a positive experience. To loop back to my first statement. I think I am recharged to get back into the command center and lead from there.

Maintenance and Continuous Improvement Maintenance Manager for specialty beverage plant in Hamburg, PA. Hired to lead change management for a hybrid beverage plant (run products unique in the Niagara portfolio) in a plant that was acquired and not built from the ground up as most Niagara plants.Bringing processes and procedures to build a team that can operate at lower cost, higher efficiency, and maintenance excellence to rise to the expectations of the Niagara family.Admittedly a steeper challenge than expected but in 3 short months (to date) have made impressive strides to building the foundation to run at world class levels.

Responsible for 10 mechanics and mold technicians in the maintenance of a PET/HDPE bottle making facility. Implementing technology and processes to allow us to run more efficiently and cost effectively.First year accomplishments:PM Audit: Streamlined PM for increased effectiveness (eliminated redundancy and lessened infant mortality issues). Reducing scheduled downtime without affecting machinery health study in 2015.Capital Projects: Air Quality/Energy efficiency upgrade: Installed air quality equipment-developed energy tracking protocols to monitor energy consumption for future reductions. Dock restraint replacement, wheel brakes, flame detection system. HVAC upgrade (heating, cooling, plant floor improvements) and energy reduction and safety lighting upgrade for 2015. 90% of labor done in house.Storeroom revamp: Full inventory, barcoding, min/max, critical spare. Working on shared MRO resources with sister plant for 2015. Will fully implement SAP Spare Parts in 2015.Predictive Maintenance expansion: Expanded thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound, and fully implemented lubrication program (Lubrication Excellence, oil analysis, Maintenance Lubrication Tech certification). Starting Motor Circuit Analysis for 2015 (beta test site for 68 plants).

They built a superior CMMS platform (which I used to rep with RTS) with web based interface, wireless solutions, barcoding, and now equipment reliability. I get to help their clients use the software in developing and integrating PdM programs in their plants and facilities. It really is the best of all worlds as my new clients already have a great tool for data acquisition so they can build an excellent Equipment Reliability program.I have developed a line of services to help companies that might have the expertise but not the time to get their reliability initiatives completed.
