Twice I have taught Philosophy of Social Science. My aim in that course is to help students think through philosophical, and especially ethical, issues raised by social scientific research. The course focuses on the role(s) of values in science and implications for “objectivity” as a scientific ideal, as well as the place of social scientific evidence in guiding public policy.In Spring 2022, I am teaching Practical Ethics. My overarching objective for the course is to help students to have more productive conversations about complex ethical issues that they are likely to face in their own lives: How much, if any, of your income should you give to charity? What, if anything, should you be doing about climate change? Is it wrong to buy from companies with questionable business practices? -
