Mr. Putallaz started his career as a bridge engineer with Clark Nexsen in 1998 as a co-op student from Virginia Tech. For the past 23 years he has conducted and supported the many aspects of bridge engineering with a primary focus on safety inspections of highway structures for federal, state, and local government clients and is highly trained. In total, he has performed approximately 2500 bridge, culvert, and tunnel safety inspections and over 200 ancillary highway structure safety inspections. Additionally, he has performed permit analyses and nearly 200 load ratings for VDOT utilizing software beginning with the AASHTO BARS program to the present version of AASHTOware BrR (formerly Virtis) as well as design services for new structures and rehabilitated structures. For the past 16 years he has performed over 2000 report reviews on other team leaders’ work, as a QA/QC manager, to ensure complete, correct, and consistent high-quality reports tailored to and exceeding our clients’ specifications. Additionally, as project manager he has produced letters of agreements and fee proposals for our VDOT and FHWA contracts and has planned, scheduled, and coordinated personnel and inspection operations; he has managed our contracts with the Town of Blacksburg since 2011 and with the City of Roanoke since 2019. Mike has also lead the internal development and implementation of BrM during the transition from Pontis element level inspections, that with teamwork, ultimately led to the creation of an efficient Excel file that utilizes Visual Basic to input defects and create uniform summary tables. He continues to provide mentorship and training to our junior team members on all aspects of our inspection program.
