Social Scientist with over 12 years of experience in advocating for Black and Brown communities, Federal programs management, and research. I am expertly trained in understanding and interpreting complex human experiences within their cultural contexts, and I would be honored to apply my talents to a cause that profoundly impacts individuals’ lives. My experience working across vast gulfs of cultural difference goes back to my Peace Corps service in Ethiopia and since then I have become increasingly familiar with the sensitivity and empathy needed to elicit detailed and nuanced information from individuals. In my capacity as an anthropologist, I have worked with faith-based communities in Maryland to protect and preserve cultural connections to sacred places such as slave burial grounds, and designed research projects to establish genealogies and recover historical documents that demonstrated how their ancestors had been disenfranchised from these properties. Dealing with such painful narratives and complicated histories can be messy work but through this and other work I have come to recognize my innate ability to gain one’s trust and have them open up to me about the full scope of their experience.
