My task focuses on improving the process of culturing bovine satellite cells for the production of cultured beef. More in detail, I focus on sustainable alternatives for the matrix on which the cells have to grow in order to form fibers.

I worked here partially as a technician, performing routine laboratory analyses and partially as a research associate in which I aimed to develop new diagnostic tools for Lyme disease and the aerotoxic syndrome.

Twist1 is a bHLH transcription factor that is upregulated in foam cell macrophages in atherosclerosis compared to non-atherosclerotic macrophages. During my internship at the department of Pathology, we focused on a possible functional role for Twist1 in foam cell macrophages.

As an intern at the department of Physiology, I worked on a project about AV shunts. In AV shunts, a unexpected vasodilation pattern was observed. The endothelium independent relaxation was impaired, whereas there was no change in endothelium dependent relaxation. In this project, I've tried to elucidate the underlying mechanism of this impairment and its compensation by the endohelium.Techniques used in this project were Western blotting, cell culture, immunohistochemistry and wire myography
