Prior to joining Barrick, Mr. McCarthy was a shareholder of Parsons Behle & Latimer and concentrated his practice on intellectual property litigation and environmental and natural resources matters, including environmental and natural resources litigation, public lands issues, and mining law. His intellectual property litigation practice included representation of both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement and trade secret actions in federal courts around the country, including the District of Utah, the Eastern District of Texas, the Northern District of Illinois, the District of New Jersey, and in appeals of patent decisions to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Additionally, Mr. McCarthy is licensed to practice and has represented clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.In the area of environmental and natural resources law, Mr. McCarthy’s experience prior to law school as a mining engineer working in the mining industry at surface coal and gold mines provided insight for his representation of clients in environmental and natural resources litigation and other public lands and mining law matters. Mr. McCarthy has represented natural resource clients in federal court, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, as well as before the London Metal Exchange.
