I was also deputy manager of the Mars Orbiter Camera (also MOC) for the Mars Global Surveyor Mission (1993-1995). Each MOC was designed to provide 1.5 m per pixel imaging from orbit around Mars. The MOC on Mars Observer was lost when the spacecraft blew up. The second MOC operated for ten years, returned a quarter of a million images, and revolutionized our view of Mars in multiple ways.
