Genprex is a cancer and gene therapy company focused on cancer and diabetes. During my tenure, I became the sole inventor of two gene therapy products for cancer.

Oncolix is developing a therapeutic protein for the indications of ovarian, endometrial and breast cancer. The drug, Prolanta, is a mutant variation of human prolactin (G129R). The Company is now conducting a Phase I dose-escalation trial for the indication of ovarian cancer. Prolanta works by an exciting novel mechanism of action, autophagy, which has the potential to be a powerful tool to improve the lives of patients suffering from cancer.In addition, Prolanta competitively binds to prolactin receptors on many types of cancer cells that blocks human prolactin. Human prolactin confers chemoresistance by upregulating glutathione-s-transferace (GST). GST causes both taxanes and platins to be actively transported out of cancer cells, thereby causing resistance. Furthermore, by blocking prolactin receptors on cancer cells, Prolanta disrupts the interaction of glutathione binding (by downregulating glutathione s-transferase) to platinum. This binding causes transport of platinum outside of the cell, which is a cause of platinum resistance.
