Design and develop medium and high voltage (experienced up to 230kv) power systems, 230-460vac three phase electrical power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), electrical substations, PLC and DCS control systems, instrumentation, and energy management, for oil and petrochemical plants, refineries, oil and gas distribution terminals, marine facilities, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, and manufacturing facilities including all forms of hazardous area electrical design. Perform arc flash hazard analysis on new and existing facilities using etap and SKM software. Provide construction site supervision and perform onsite design compliance inspections.

Managed the Electrical Engineering Department. Developed custom Reaction Injection Molding machines, Plural component Polyurethane processing equipment, mold presses, and chemical storage and transfer systems. Managed extensive automotive (Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler) projects including the design, fabrication, installation and construction of production line equipment and facilities. Programed Allen Bradley and GE PLC controllers and HMI operator interfaces. Interfaced PLC with plant wide control systems.

Established the Gusmer Engineering Services division to address custom engineering design, fabrication, and construction projects. Developed business plan, staffing, sales, and financial structure of the division. The division was responsible for the design of unique custom solutions to production line machinery and processing techniques. Worked with NJIT to develop custom machinery for several cutting edge technologies and the US military specialty weapons development group.

Design, develop, and implement all phases of product improvements and new equipment designs for electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems utilized on reaction injection molding machines and plural component spray and pour equipment. Integrate PLC controlled injection molding equipment, chemical bulk storage systems, conveyor and robotic assembly systems, presses and mold carriers for use in automotive, and other industrial applications. Program PLC’s, AC frequency drives, and production robots. Developed machinery for Martin Marietta Corporation for the fabrication of the space shuttle.

Designed and developed electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems utilized on 35-50 foot luxury motor yachts. Systems included AC/DC electrical distribution panels, wiring harnesses, AC power generation, gasoline and diesel propulsion drive trains, fire suppression systems, climate control, helm gauge and control panels, steering and navigation systems, waste and freshwater systems, and fuel management. Performed weight distribution/flotation analysis, reviewed interior space utilization, and evaluated performance of prototype yachts. Insured compliance with US Coast Guard federal regulations, as well as those of the ABYC and NMMA.

Managed quality control department as well as performing project engineering functions. Supervised quality control technicians. Developed incoming part inspection procedures. Inspected customer jobsites to evaluate and resolve product field performance problems. Worked closely with electrical and construction trades. Designed incandescent, HID, and hazardous location lighting fixtures and equipment from concept through production utilizing die-castings, extrusions, and injection molded parts.
