Jodi Rell Center for Public Service at the University of Hartford encourages integrity in government and public service, and responsible participation in public life, those traits characterized by the life and career of Governor M. Jodi Rell. It focuses on three means to reach those goals.1. Public discussions of two varieties. One is aimed at providing insight and discussion of the role integrity should play in government and public life. These public discussions include lectures, panels, and symposia to be held at the University of Hartford or, occasionally, at other sites around the state of Connecticut. The second is designed to provide a forum for democratic participation in addressing important local and regional issues.2. Teaching and Learning Opportunities focused on the development of the knowledge, skills and values necessary for full participation in the democratic process. Activities supported include internships and service-learning opportunities in government and public service; courses, learning communities, and special events. Particular emphasis is given to activities that: are interdisciplinary; engage the curricular and co-curricular; and provide opportunities for meaningful dialogue about important campus issues.3. Research or scholarly inquiry focused on a) the nature of integrity in government and public life; b) the effectiveness of teaching and learning approaches mentioned above and c) the process and result of collaboration with government and community partners in promoting integrity in government and public life.
