The state established a Tobacco and Health Trust Fund Board, in accordance with C.G.S. Sec. 4-28f, to create a continuing significant source of funds to (1) support and encourage development of programs to reduce tobacco abuse through prevention, education and cessation programs, (2) support and encourage development of programs to reduce substance abuse, and (3) develop and implement programs to meet the unmet physical and mental health needs in the state.

• Develop individualized constituent and district outreach plans for caucus members. • Schedule speaking engagements for caucus members with various associations, elected officials, agency officials and individuals. Subject matters have pertained to legislation and regulations that are up for debate by the general assembly.• Work with statewide and local media outlets to garner positive press exposure. Invite state and local officials to be part of the dialogue and when proper invite industry representatives.• Direct our caucus members and staff to utilize new communication tools to get their messages to the public. Such new tools are Internet based. Email blasts, websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and online videos are all new mechanisms that supplement traditional media which has a propensity to water down one’s message. • Oversees a staff of six and collaborates with the caucus chief of staff on a budget

I proudly serve on the Advisory Board of the Center. Board members are appointed by the college president, in consultation with the director and the deans of the College of Arts and Sciences and Hillyer College. The Board is comprised of members from either the University or the general community.The Governor M. Jodi Rell Center for Public Service at the University of Hartford encourages integrity in government and public service, and responsible participation in public life, those traits characterized by the life and career of Governor M. Jodi Rell. It focuses on three means to reach those goals.1. Public discussions of two varieties. One is aimed at providing insight and discussion of the role integrity should play in government and public life. These public discussions include lectures, panels, and symposia to be held at the University of Hartford or, occasionally, at other sites around the state of Connecticut. The second is designed to provide a forum for democratic participation in addressing important local and regional issues.2. Teaching and Learning Opportunities focused on the development of the knowledge, skills and values necessary for full participation in the democratic process. Activities supported include internships and service-learning opportunities in government and public service; courses, learning communities, and special events. Particular emphasis is given to activities that: are interdisciplinary; engage the curricular and co-curricular; and provide opportunities for meaningful dialogue about important campus issues.3. Research or scholarly inquiry focused on a) the nature of integrity in government and public life; b) the effectiveness of teaching and learning approaches mentioned above and c) the process and result of collaboration with government and community partners in promoting integrity in government and public life.

I was honored to have been elected to serve on Wethersfield's Town Council for five terms. A majority of voters in town have entrusted in me, their support to do what is right. • Responsible for tracking legislation, with a focus on the proposals put forth by the House Republican caucus. Became familiar with committee bills, worked with the committee ranking members and provided caucus members with legislative information.• Wrote testimony and talking points on proposed legislation. • Prepared issue briefs on appropriate subjects and researched member requests on legislation. • Attended subject matter hearings and meetings on behalf of the caucus, both in and outside of the Legislative Office Building.Further, in the role as a policy analyst for the House Republicans:• Gained a comprehensive knowledge of the legislative process;• Researched legislative documents, including, but not limited to: agency regulations, public acts, statutes, transcripts, voting records, bill analyses and amendments;• Tracked legislation;• Established relationships with state agency officials, agency liaisons, legislative committee and caucus staff and lobbyists, and;• Worked with constituents to resolve legislative concerns.

• Responsible for developing, managing and implementing the public policy for the Senate Republican caucus, including leadership. • Vital to legislative research and development of public policy initiatives for the senate caucus and individual state senators.• Developed and fostered relationships with local and statewide media outlets. • Gained interpersonal qualities and political savvy that crystallized an ability to act quickly and manage public crises the caucus encountered.• Fostered the skillfulness to thoroughly research an issue and subsequently promote or defeat the measure to legislators, state and local officials, and most importantly, the public.
