Required to write a combination of large programme structure for weather and climate codes and underlying HPC system architectures in order to develop model frameworks using software skills including Fortran, MPI, OpenMP, Python, and Perl. In particular, a climate laboratory has been developed which supports the data analysis and simulation of a number of sophisticated climate and weather models such as the ACCESS coupled model (UM + MoM4 + CICE + CABLE/JULES). This position requires a high level of technical interaction with a number of Australian and International organisations such as CAWCR (BoM and CSIRO), NCI, and the UK Met Office. I have been appointed to five technical committees within CAWCR and am a representative on the Technical Advisory Group at the UK Met Office. In particular, I currently lead a small project team on behalf of the UK Met Office, which is investigating technical infrastructure for Gung-Ho, a new model to replace the existing UM. Show less

This company, with a research staff of about 50 electronics engineers and software specialists designed image processing equipment for digital painting, 3-D graphics using ray-tracing and real-time image processing using multiple transputers and custom-designed hardware. I was becoming more interested in research and this was an excellent position to start from. I was responsible for designing and implementing algorithms for use in the real-time image processor. Because the hardware was not yet built, I also implemented a software simulator which was used to pinpoint potential bugs in the hardware design before the company was committed to board design.
