I am currently working for the Highways department in Newcastle City Council. During my time here I have had extensive experience with all aspects of Highway Design, supervision and construction throughout Newcastle Upon Tyne. I have performed designs and various types of schemes such as - Highway maintenance, pavement design, LTP Schemes, traffic management design, Flood damage schemes, shopping areas, new car park construction and schemes to resolve various pounding issues. My main duty within my current role is to complete scheme designs. All aspects are considered - Community safety, drainage, flood risk, de-cluttering, durability, sustainability, build-ability, health and safety and if budgets allow, aesthetics. As well as scheme design my role also requires me to complete health and safety risk assessments, method statements, environmental risk assessments, gather relevant statutory undertakers information, look at traffic management layouts, apply for legal orders - road closures, lane closures and restrictions.I use a variety of software to perform these tasks such as: AutoCAD, Keylines, Keysigns,AutoTrack, ArcGIS, Symology. Within the design of various schemes I have also had evolvement with: Selection of schemes through street condition data, preparing initial budget estimates used to monitor the budgets, agreeing costs and schemes with councillors, providing detailed estimates, monitoring budgets of schemes, arranging and attending consultation meetings with residents and councillors, applying and agreeing planning permission and researching into new innovative products and materials. In addition to design work I undertake in Newcastle City I also perform various task on behalf of NPLG on the A69. This has led me to gain extensive experience in highway and field drainage investigations. I currently deal with all drainage issues along the A69. As well as arranging, co-ordinating and supervising the annual CCTV drainage inspections.
