Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited is a manufacturer, designer and marketer of products and systems for use in respiratory and acute care. Based in New Zealand, their products and systems are sold in around 120 countries worldwide. Key achievements in this position have included preparing the consolidated FPH Group budget for the 2020/21 financial year, which involved collating financial information from approx. 30 different Group entities into a coherent whole. This included multiple scenario analyses, covering every aspect of the Group’s operations, and was prepared on schedule at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic period.I also provided insights and analysis of the impacts of Covid-19 on Group profitability and performance, which involved collecting and presenting the impacts of the pandemic not only on Group revenue, but also on product costs, expenses and profitability, during a constantly evolving situation.Finally, I created a range of new tools to monitor performance and rolled these out to stakeholders across the Group’s global operations. These tools have made information more easily available to stakeholders whilst at the same time reducing/eliminating the manual processing time required.Finally, as a long-term director and trustee of the Fisher & Paykel credit union, I have, along with my fellow Board members, been responsible for protecting the assets of investors of the credit union, while maintaining its independence in a challenging financial sector. Most recently I have been involved in the recruitment and selection process for a new General Manager of the credit union.

A key highlight in this role was using my strategic acumen to create a scalable, repeatable and consistent methodology for enabling “constant currency” financial reporting for internal and external purposes. This enabled us to assess underlying company performance without distortion from exchange rate movements. I also ensured the continuity of financial and management reporting through the implementation of SAP, and configured the payroll system to be able to integrate with SAP as part of the implementation. This required in-depth knowledge of business rules and processes to enable the implementation to be used “live” from day one with a minimum of disruption to business operations.Other achievements included using my financial consolidation and reporting skills and experience to lead the end-of-year reporting processes for FPH from 2012 to 2019, resulting in a clean audit opinion each time. I also implemented TM1 reporting and analysis software for preparing the annual budget, the long-term financial plan, and other financial performance measures. This is now relied on by key stakeholders across the organisation as the “single source of truth” for all revenue reporting questions. The applications have necessarily kept pace with the growth and increasing complexity of the business.In addition, I developed a robust methodology for analysing gross profitability for the consolidated FPH group across years and between actual and budget. This required me to apply advanced analytical techniques to real-world data/situations, and to tell the story behind the numbers. It resulted in much improved visibility amongst senior management of cost drivers and impacts on business performance.Finally, I used my excellent coaching and mentoring skills to guide approximately 10 junior staff in working towards and gaining their CA qualification, and am currently working with several more.
