Dr. Riddell is a Full Professor in the School of Kinesiology & Health Science at York University. He is also a Senior Scientist at the LMC Diabetes & Endocrinology (Centricity Research) in Toronto. His research interests focus on the metabolic and hormonal responses to exercise and stress in diabetes, publishing over 220 original research papers and about 30 book chapters on the topic. Dr. Riddell, a graduate of the University of Guelph in Kinesiology, has a PhD in Medical Sciences (Physiology/Pharmacology) from McMaster University and post-doctoral experience from the University of Toronto (Physiology). His post doc mentor was Mladen Vranic who was a post doc of Charles H. Best who helped discover insulin.Dr Riddell and his colleagues are currently focusing on how to make exercise safer from a glucose management perspective for people living with diabetes. He is also helping to advance a new “first in class” therapy for the prevention of hypoglycemia in diabetes. Michael, who has been living with type 1 diabetes since the age of 14, enjoys mountain biking, hiking and mountain trekking with other people living with diabetes.
