Perform daily inspections of inmate housing areas and random searches of individual cells, common areas, and inmates, looking for contraband articles. Performs all work in compliance with all laws, rules and regulatory standards governing the operations of the detention facilities and programs, and the confinement, safety, health and protection of criminal offenders. Supervises, communicates, and promotes positive behavior among inmates. Resolves behavioral problems through counseling and problem solving skills. Employs force to maintain order among inmates as prescribed by departmental rules and regulations as necessary. Can appropriately provide basic life support (CPR and AED) and crisis intervention. Familiar with Florida Model Jail Standards (FMJS), Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC), American Jail Association (AJA), and the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Took the following advancement courses to further my career: Line Supervision, Verbal Judo, Essentials in Correctional Excellence and I currently hold the CJO certification (Certified Jail Officer) by the American Jail Association.
