Michael was integral to the creation and start-up of Robinson Innovations. Leveraging his understanding of internet technologies, and building a strong team to support his vision, he launched a Manufacturing Support Division (now Robinson Innovations) with the design, build and launch of a unique precision weighing facility and services for Goodyear in Canada and the U.S. Innovations operates a fully automated, state-of-the-art pre-weigh operation to meet Goodyear’s specific technical needs, directly accessible to customer through web-interface By leapfrogging the existing best practices utilized in the industry the Plant improves quality and reduces liability; and is fully integrated the pre-weigh operations of three Goodyear plants,Augmented the operation with customized IT applications to integrate Goodyear and Robinson operations to provide a detailed level of control and visibility to the entire process not currently available in the market. Currently the Robinson plant provides 53% of the North American outsourced market for pre-weighing, and 90% of the carbon black repurposing market.

Robinson has provided services to over 75 Plants and managed over 5,000 on-site Plant personnel across North America. Throughout its history Robinson Solutions developed internet-based solutions to support its operational performance. In addition to 20 years operational experience in production facilities, Robinson Solutions spent 20 years connecting people in industrial environments and the last 15 years connecting devices and equipment (things) -- expanding its industrial, technical and engineering focus to include the development of digital solutions to mine complex data rich environments to increase customer value. From connected buildings, connected production systems and managed facilities services, coupled with Robinson Solution’s manufacturing and operational understanding, customer focus, expertise make Robinson Solutions a leader in in this market.

Engineering his first acquisition to expand the family business before his graduation from university, and taking over the leadership of the company upon graduation, Michael managed a timely pivot from product distribution supplier to service provider in manufacturing facilities at the beginning of the curve towards outsourcing in industrial environments. In 1995 Robinson became the only Canadian company to be given a managed facilities services contract at General Motors, by building the case for a nimble innovative company within a staid commodity pricing- purchasing culture. HIs relentless pursuit of introducing new methodologies and technologies to create customer value and competitive advantage grew Robinson Solutions from a regional business to an international facilities services company with contracts in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. Robinson Solutions was sold to Tyco International in 2001.
