CTO for Mobile Labs, LLC; we are a software ISV developing mobile device clouds for developers, DevOps, and testing of mobile apps and web. Our target market is Enterprise IT in the Global 2000 and we offer both on-premises and cloud-based access to real mobile devices. Was responsible for initial product strategy and development and built the product development and customer support organizations.

I was an architect and programmer for Fundamental Software's ESA/390 and z/Architecture CPU emulation products on UnixWare and Linux. I implemented major CPU architectural enhancements like extended addressing, long displacement, subspaces, ASN-and-LX reuse, program-call, converting from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture at both the logical (emulated CPU) and physical (x86-64 assembler) levels, and I also wrote a virtual tape library product for MVS that automatically allocated and mounted server/SAN disk files in place of mainframe tape volumes and drives, transparently to the operating system. I also assisted with customer support and problem diagnosis and product repair as well as zOS problem determination.

As CTO at KnowledgeWare, I was responsible for initial development and ongoing delivery of the Information Engineering Workshop (IEW) and Application Development Workshop (ADW) products. I managed R&D, advanced technology, and product strategy. At KnowledgeWare we worked with the first protected-mode and first windowing systems for the IBM PC, beginning with Beta versions of Windows 1 and including Digital Research GEM, Windows 2 and 3, Windows NT, and OS2/Presentation Manager. I built the first product prototypes built on windowing system code in early 1985; we extended PC DOS architecture to include swapping and the Intel AboveBoard (bank switching memory) before the advent of 32-bit architectures.

As Amdahl's technical support manager for the Great Lakes Region, I managed second and third-level regional support specialists for both hardware (mainframes, DASD, communications controllers) and software (MVS, VM, UTS). The job entailed on-site management to resolve high-severity hardware and software outages (greater than 8 hours), managing regional and headquarters engineers, parts logistics, executive escalation, and customer interaction during the outage. My group also did hardware and software consulting including training, site audits, hardware audits, performance and tuning, and operations management.

As an Amdahl field manager, I had responsibility for customer satisfaction with Amdahl's hardware and software products in the southern Ohio area. I managed a group of 12 systems engineers (software support) and field engineers (hardware support) that provided full-time, on-site customer support and first-level problem analysis and repair. I worked closely with sales to expand Amdahl's customer base in the area.

As a staff systems engineer for Amdahl, I provided second and third-level operating system support for MVT, MVS, VM, and several Amdahl software products including VM/PE and recovery management support. I assisted in diagnosing difficult hardware problems including engineering problems and provided temporary fixes for MVS as needed.I also performed consulting engagements for performance, conversion to MVS, operations, and large-scale project reviews.I also assisted sales with consulting, technical presentations, pre-sales analysis and installation planning.

I learned systems programming at UC by performing sysgens, coding modifications, and applying maintenance to SVS/HASP and MVS/JES2 systems. Taught system internals to junior staff.
