Courses taught: Structure and Function of Organisms; Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution; Environmental Science; Human Body: Form and Function. Redesigned courses to incorporate active learning methods and an inquiry-based approach; balanced instruction to accommodate a broad diversity of learning styles including those of undergraduates, adult learners, and learning disabled and other at-risk students.

Course taught: Basic Biology; also coordinated eight lab sections taught by myself and other faculty

Created professional development programs for adult learners. Developed and maintained dynamic, pro-active relationship with Associate Deans and Outreach leadership in academic Colleges. Served on committees including Outreach Diversity Council. Coordinated Creating Health project, a health education collaboration.

Directed daily operations of federally-funded program for low-income and first generation college-bound high school students. Counseled students and evaluated program to increase student motivation and skills. Evaluated and improved curriculum to incorporate new learning and teaching approaches. Formulated and coordinated procedures and standards of instruction and counseling. Supervised 20 staff members including assistant director, teachers, and counselors. Administered federal grant and managed program budget of $250,000. Wrote proposal to US Department of Education to continue funding for program.

Conducted research in sustainable agriculture. Wrote proposal to USDA that successfully funded project.

Courses taught: Landscape Maintenance and Management; Sustainable Vegetable Systems; Experimental Field Biology; Internship Directed research projects for summer interns; designed and taught new course, Agriculture and the Environment, for academically talented high school students in the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences.

Conducted research on biochemistry and molecular biology of photosynthetic enzymes.

Conducted medical research involving development of clinical smell and taste test.
