About Michael Samson

I am lucky to have a very diverse work history that has afforded me many skill sets in many fields of work. Each area has served me well in the next endeavor that I have jumped into, allowing me to build both diverse skills, but also an understanding and perspective of many industries and trades.Beginning from financial printing, on a cold set web press, I learned the importance of organization and especially time management. Moving onto auto mechanics, the concept of time management was very key in keeping the movement of repaired vehicles, back into the care of the owners, who also have very busy lives of their own. Thus the perception that time management is a valuable tool was reinforced. While working in the automotive trade, for Honda dealerships, I became aware of the relationship of Service Adviser and vehicle owner. That is to say customer expectations and the delivery of quality service.I made a transition into the social field, and with that, the above understandings were a boon to me. While working with youth, my understanding of time management was a great tool to bestow to youth. With that youth under my supervision came to see how this simple tool would alleviate much anxiety that one comes under, when one looks at work load vs time to complete. Where does customer expectations comes in? Well that's simple: your teacher is the customer and you are the technician. Give your teacher the quality of work they ask for in the timeline they give out. With this principal, youth under my guidance completed courses and beyond that, did so with respected grades.I made a transition back to trade work. Hands on, once again. Working on a renovation project for a resort, led me to two season employment, where I was exposed to many trades, from a maintenance perspective. I realized at that point, that I had the tools required to open and handle all aspects of a business of my own. Which is where I am at now. Making your renovation dreams a reality

Maintenance Technician

Golden Beach Resort

Roseneath, Ontario

Initially I was hired on to complete the renovation project of the amazing condo units, at Golden Beach Resort. While working on this large scale project, I utilized my understanding of time management, and interpersonal skills and applied it to the many aspects of the project. During this project, I was given exposure to many aspects of many trades, including Carpentry, Electrical and Pluming. Through the guidance of the Maintenance Dept. Manager, I was given detailed information of current codes of these trades, as well as how to avoid commonly made mistakes within said trades.By showing my ability to learn new skills and grasp new concepts quickly and completely, I was given responsibility to organize other staff, also hired on to complete the renovation project. This in turn, lead to being asked to stay on, within the Maintenance Dept. for the upcoming resort season. During this period, the exposure to diagnosing causes of equipment and system failures became first and foremost of my duties. Along side these responsibilities, was the monitoring of the water systems around the resort and the residential locations. For this I completed my certification course, for the Operation Of Small Drinking Water Systems, as offered by The Walkerton Clean Water Center. Daily testing of Turbidity and Chlorine levels and reporting these numbers back to my Manager were strictly monitored to ensure accuracy. In the two seasons that I worked at Golden Beach Resort, I was given cross training into some of the various departments to ensure adequate coverage of all departments during all times of the day. This took further advantage of my ability to grasp new information quickly and completely.

Clinical Support Worker

Broken Arrow Residential Treatment Services

Cobourg Ontario

During my employment with Broken Arrow residential Treatment services, I worked in a variety of environments with Youth. In addition to environments, I worked with Youth in a wide range or emotional states and with a wide range of needs. Broken Arrow Residential Treatment Services is a leader in Youth work, centered around First Nations Youth, and in my time there, I am proud to say that I worked with some amazing Youth from the Innu culture. I am also proud to highlight, that these Youth also showed me what courage looks like.I started my employment with in depth NCI (Non Violent Crisis Intervention) training, before working with Foster Children in a Recreational role. Responsibilities included supervision within the community in a range of locations and the recording of these outings. Everything from physical exercise at a local YMCA, promoting healthy living, to shopping outings to encourage both social interaction and management of money; recording the details of the outings were used during meetings to track that Youths needs and plan meaningful treatment for the Youth in Broken Arrow Residential Treatment Service's care.I then moved into the role of working with youth in the school settings. Again new skill sets were required as the needs in this capacity were different than in the recreational setting. In the school setting I was best described as a liaison between Youth, staff and Broken Arrow Residential Treatment Services. Assisting the Youth with cultural differences, which include language and social differences. Encouraging that positive decisions be made in all aspects of the school experience could be considered the bulk of the days work. As well as the communication with school staff on the Youths needs, and with Agency staff on the Youth's progress and daily events/decisions.

Cold Set Web Apprentice

Qeubecor - M.I.L

Toronto Ontario

The actual beginning of this career was as Floor Help, in the Express Dept. Here I was made aware of the fast pace of the Printing Industry. After a while, I was given the chance to join the crew of the Cold Set Web Press. This was a mid nights, continental shift position which was also underlined by an "on call" understanding. Time management was paramount, due to the speed that the press could output financial documents. In addition to the speed of the press, ensuring the documents were ready on time to meet deadlines was also hugely important, as they were reports as required by major financial institutions.Resource management was required to ensure that entire rolls of paper were not wasted and that required materials were always in stock when needed. This required attention to the docket information as well as communication with the Pre Press Dept.Attention to print detail was hugely important as well, both in catching any possible misspelling and ensuring clarity of print. Making changes to ink flow and press speed on the fly, while minimizing waste due to changes were also developed skills.
