Initial author / developer of the Rapid Synthetic Environment Tool (RSET) - a Unity based software simulator to enable Marines with little to no technical skill to create, augment, and use synthetic training environments. As our capabilities and contracts grew, my role shifted from 100% development to 50% development and 50% engineering management and business development as we hired new engineers to ramp up our offerings.

I was responsible for the developing and maintaining Linux Device Drivers for the wireless networking modules and the user interface panel. I worked my way up to a Band 3 while working remotely, requiring strong discipline to over-deliver on all the teams I joined. Evaluating Linux system performance metrics, collaborating with many other verticals on new controller card bring up (including everything from hardware design to UI software), and writing the initial drivers for the new Bluetooth Low Energy module were just a few of the projects I fondly remember.Wireless Device DriversThis involved coordinating with the chip manufacturer, WiFi Direct personnel, and our internal product owners to ensure the wireless experience was solid for our printers across a range of environments. I was a team of 3 other engineers that made changes to one of several wireless drivers that would talk directly to the wireless device.Panel FirmwareThis position allowed me to bridge between Linux device drivers and micro-controller firmware for the control panels for the printers. I both wrote firmware for the micro-controllers and wrote and maintained the interfaces in the linux drivers so the main system could communicate effectively with the control panel hardware. My favorite contribution to this team was in-circuit programming, which allowed us to bundle micro-controller firmware alongside the main Linux image, and when users would reflash or update their printers, they’d get all the new updates to the firmware on the control panel seamlessly. BLEThis was one of my last contributions, and it involved selecting a BLE vendor and writing new device drivers to communicate with the chip to enable bluetooth communication on the printers. I worked with the vendor to augment their interface (down to timing individual SPI commands with a bus analyzer) and wrote a brand new SPI-HCI bridge, which served as an interface layer between the controller card and the BLE module.
