Provided Production and UAT support for BASE24-eps and Classic systems, including solution design consultancy and new project risk analysis. Conducted successful client migrations from NonStop Integrity to NS Blades servers, and from Goldengate data replication to DRNet. I also provided governance for the client on major system changes, including migration from UAT to Production. Currently involved as technical consultant with a major BASE24 system migration from Itanium to NonStop X and on-boarding a large new merchant services client on BASE24-eps.

Responsible for managing a team at Krung Thai Computer Services (KCS) to implement an inter-bank switch for counter-based transactions between Thai banks. The system went live mid-2009. During this time I also assumed project management responsibility for the next phase of the project - replacement of the existing KCS ATM front-end system with BASE24-eps. I also became on-site technical lead for ACI Payments Manager (a data warehouse and settlement system).

Contracted by SVOA to implement various major projects for Government Savings Bank (GSB), a major Thai bank with over 20 million accounts, including: • Re-engineering and performance tuning of the bank's highly customised BASE24 Teller system to allow it to support 24 hour ATM operations. • Upgrade of ATM system to BASE24 Release 6. • Migration of both ATM and Teller systems from HP NSK K-series to S-series platform. • Implementation of VISA PLUS acquirer service. • Implementation of disaster recovery capability at a remote second site using GoldenGate data replication software. • Design and implementation of a flexible system to define new fixed-term deposit products During this time I provided project management, business analysis, solution architecture, detailed design, coding, testing and Production support/migration services.

Technical Team Manager and Architect in a study project to define business and technical requirements for the Shanghai Stock Exchange Next Generation Trading System (NGTS).The study was used by SSE as the basis for an RFP to invite proposals for the implementation phase of NGTS. In October 2003 I completed a lengthy pre-sales assignment to assist HP in bidding for this project.

Hong Kong

Held a senior technical position in the AMS/3 project at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx). This project involved a complete replacement of the existing host Tandem system trading ‘engine’, and major changes to the external communications interfaces to support new trading channels.My role in this project was to manage a team of up to 14 analyst/programmers during development and testing of the new host system software, and to provide technical guidance on all aspects of the host architecture design and implementation. This was a challenging assignment due to some demanding business requirements and very stringent performance and availability targets for the new system.

Contracted by ACI ASTech to supply on-site technical product consultancy and implementation services for various international clients. These assignments included:- - Qatar Central Bank (QCB) - a 9 month assignment to implement the Qatar national ATM and POS switch (NAPS). This role involved the integration and certification of 12 national banks with the central switch and required significant product modifications to support the QCB clearing system. - Al Rajhi Bank Saudi Arabia - major reconfiguration and system tuning of the bank’s production system to support rapid growth in transaction volumes. - National Australia Group - upgrade of the group’s 4 European Banks to latest version of BASE24 including integration and modification of smart-card software for the APACS UKIS trials (later incorporated within EMV standards). - ABSA Bank South Africa - upgrade of the bank’s front-end ATM and POS systems for year 2000 compliance and general technical/design consultancy for various custom modifications of the standard BASE24 software.

Contracted by Twinsoft for a major systems integration project with the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (HKEx). The scope of this project (called AMS/2) was to enhance the existing trading floor-based Automated Matching System to provide concurrent off-floor trading capability in the members’ offices. This involved a substantial redesign of the system front end, both within the Tandem host application and the trader workstations, including integration of the sp/Architect message switch package. My primary role involved responsibility for all aspects of the Tandem host application design, but secondary functions included system support, system performance analysis and migration from development to production. The system was successfully implemented in February 1996.

Involved in a variety of pre- and post-sales consultancy assignments, both short and long term, and almost exclusively focused on the Finance and Banking sectors. These assignments ranged from operations, systems design and performance reviews (typically 2-3 week exercises) to full-scale systems integration projects up to a year in duration.The following is a selection of major assignments I was involved in during this time: - Long-term architectural, performance and Tandem product consultancy for the London Stock Exchange as part of the Trading Services redevelopment undertaken by Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). This included system design reviews and hardware sizing. Prior to this business being awarded to Tandem, I was technical project manager for the team which conducted the initial competitive benchmark tests. - Systems architect and performance consultant during a systems integration project to provide an X.400 messaging system for BACS, a major U.K. banking institution. - Performance and capacity planning consultancy for James Capel, a major UK Securities brokerage. This consisted of a number of reviews conducted over the period of a year designed to optimise the client's hardware and software configuration for peaks in trading activity.

Responsible for a number of analyst/programmer teams (10 - 30 staff) developing various back-office functions including: - External interfaces to Stock Exchange TALISMAN, Checking and INS systems and internal interfaces between the FICS Tandem and IBM systems. These had to be implemented within a tight schedule in time for the Stock Market deregulation in October 1986. - Microfiche archival of customer account information and trade history for Compliance purposes. - Implementation of front-end security/access control screens for all settlement functions to comply with Audit requirements. - Conversion of the entire back-office database from Tandem and IBM systems to a Honeywell-based package system.

Various roles - latterly, I was project leader for a small team of analysts involved in technically oriented projects on both ICL and Tandem hardware. This role entailed evaluation of new software products and considerable liaison with suppliers and user departments concerning project implementation issues. This team was responsible for production of a functional requirements specification for the replacement of BACS' EFT system.Prior to this period, my role was senior designer on the Tandem based telecomms input service (BACSTEL) which was successfully implemented in 1983 and subsequently enhanced to support X.25 connections.
