Michael Schmidt is the Senior Vice President – Retail for Dubai Duty Free. Joined Dubai Duty Free in 2000 and has held the positions of Retail Manager, Merchandise Manager and Duty Manager. In 2011 Michael joined the Executive Board of Dubai Duty Free. He is part of the committee that planned and opened the Dubai Duty Free Operations in Terminal 3 Concourse B in 2008 and Concourse A in 2013 as well as Dubai World Central in 2013 and the setting up of Concourse D which opened on 24 February 2016.Prior to joining Dubai Duty Free, Michael worked with The One where he was part of the team that set up the Abu Dhabi and Dubai retail outlets. Before locating to the UAE in 1996 Michael was a buyer for men’s fashion with the Edcon group in South AfricaDubai Duty Free has an annual turn over in excess of $2 Billion and is the single biggest airport retailer in the world. Michael manages a team of 25 managers, 250 supervisors and 4500 sales staff that does on average 76,000 transaction per day in a retail space of over 38,000 sqm.
