Michael Schuler is the author of "Making the Good Life Last: Four Keys to Sustainable Living" (Berrett-Kohler, 2009). For several years he contributed monthly columns to the Capitol Times newspaper's "Faith and Values" section and his essays have appeared in several Skinner House (UUA) volumes. He has spoken before Unitarian Universalist audiences throughout the United States and in 2011 delivered the sermon at the UUA Annual Meeting's Service of the Living Tradition, attended by over 4000 worshippers. For thirty years he served as senior minister of the First Unitarian Society of Madison, one of the largest UU churches in North America. The congregation meets in the National Landmark Frank Lloyd Wright Meeting House, completed in 1951. In 2008 the Society opened a 24,000 square foot Gold level LEED certified addition which has won numerous awards for its unique design. Michael retired from his current position at the end of June, 2018. His new book, “Humanism: In Command or in Crisis?” Was released in September 2023. He has been married to Trina for fifty years, and the couple’s son, Kyle, is a manager in a software company (JAMF) in the Twin Cities. Michael and Trina share their home with two toy spaniels (phalenes), Lani and Meka.
