Summer PlacementInvolved in a major highway infrastructure contract for the largest mixed-use regeneration scheme in the North East, DurhamGate. Works included the construction of three new interconnecting link roads to the heart of the development, the realignment of Thinford roundabout and further improvements to the surrounding network.Main roles and responsibilities:• Alternating with the site engineer when setting out and levelling for various works, such as highway construction, feature walls and foundations, service ducts, bespoke street furniture, lighting columns, kerbs and paving.• Interpreting designs and drawings to acquire the necessary information to carry out the works. • Developing an in-depth understanding of the health and safety protocols used on site: Take Care, Zero Harm and the 4 Golden Rules. • Attending site inductions, toolbox talks and daily briefings to remain up-to-date with the progress of the development and the various different components of work.• Examining utility drawings and using Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT) to locate existing underground services.
