Michael is Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) at the University of Warwick, where he has responsibility for the University's international strategy as part of the University Executive Board, and also Professor in Classics and Ancient History. He was previously the founder and Director of the Warwick Institute of Engagement. He has written and presented numerous TV and Radio documentaries for the BBC, ITV, National Geographic, History Channel and SBS. He is a National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy; Honorary Citizen of Delphi, Greece; President of the Lytham Saint Anne’s Classical Association; Director and Trustee of Classics For All; Founder of the Warwick Classics Network; member of The Royal Society Public Engagement Committee; author of several books on the ancient Mediterranean world as well as ancient Global History; and has taught/given talks in UK, Europe, China, USA and South America. He won for Classical Association Prize for Outreach in 2021. He was made a 'Lego Classicist' in 2019 and was Lego Classicist of the Year in 2022.
