I currently work at the Meadows in Wickenburg Arizona. The Meadows is a long established world renowned treatment center known for treatment of addictions mental disorders and trauma. My career started at the University of Arizona where I finished medical school and went on to do a family practice residency. Can years later became invested in addiction medicine largely through my own personal experience. It was a medical director of Cottonwood de Tucson. I went back and completed another residency in psychiatry again at the University of Arizona. I did inpatient psychiatry for a brief period and then became the medical director of Sierra Tucson in 1994. I helped turn Sierra Tucson around and went from 20 beds up to well over 120 beds. Rather than fail as predicted, Sierra Tucson thrived and expanded. I left into 2008 when new ownership took over. I did a brief time in outpatient Psychiatry and addiction and then joined Quality-of-Life Clinic. I’m now not in active practice but rather serve as a consultant for admissions to the Meadows. My career now is different than what I thought it would be many years ago. But I find that my experience,knowledge and training have served me well. I work in all three areas of medicine, addiction and Psychiatry. I believe that an integrated approach to patient care is the best approach. No longer can we tolerate compartmentalizing patients into categories based on a few symptoms. If my diverse background has taught me one thing, it’s that these compartments are more similar than dis- similar and the interface is often the key to getting better. This has always been my philosophy and It will continue to be.
